How to Download and Open Your Hat Burning Files

How to Download Your Files

Don’t worry if downloading digital files feels a little unfamiliar at first. Most customers are able to download and open their files in just a few minutes. This guide will walk you through the process step by step.

We use PCs for most of our work, so the steps below may look a little different if you are using an Apple computer, tablet, or phone.

After you purchase one or more of our designs, you will receive an email with a link to download your files.

Step 1: Click the Download Your Files link in your email. This will take you to the download page shown below.

Step 3: Go to your Downloads folder and find the zipped folder. It should look similar to the image above.

Click the zipped folder to open it. In most cases, your computer will open the folder automatically. If it does not, you may need to unzip the folder first. Most computers already have this ability built in.

Step 4: Once the folder opens, you will see the design files included with your purchase.

In this example, there are 6 files. Some designs may include 4 or 5 files depending on the product you purchased.

What Software Do We Recommend?

For most beginners, we recommend starting with the PNG file. PNG files are easy to use, simple to resize, and work well for printing or tracing your design onto a hat.

The PNG file can be used with Canva, which is one of the easiest design platforms for beginners. You do not need to purchase a Canva subscription. Our PNG files work with the free version of Canva.

If you want to use the SVG file, we recommend Inkscape. Inkscape gives you more editing options if you want to customize the design further. It is also free, but it does have a learning curve if you are new to design software.

Many beginners start with the PNG file first and only move to the SVG file later if they want more advanced editing options.

What File Should You Use?

We encourage most customers to start with the PNG file. It is easy to work with and can be resized larger or smaller to help you get a good fit on your hat.

Another commonly used file is the SVG file. SVG files are better for advanced editing and allow for more control over the design.

If you are just getting started, the PNG file is usually the easiest place to begin.

Laser Compatibility

Our designs are created for hand burning, but the files may also work with some laser machines.

In many cases, laser software can use the PNG file. If your laser software does not accept the PNG file, you may be able to use the SVG file instead.

Because every laser machine and software program is different, we recommend checking your machine’s instructions if you are unsure which file type to use.

New to Hat Burning?

If this is your first hat burning project, don’t worry. You do not need to be an artist to get started.

Many beginners start by printing one of our PNG designs, resizing it to fit their hat, and tracing the pattern before burning.

If you are looking for easy patterns to begin with, our beginner-friendly designs are a great place to start.
