Boot Design Layout And Transfer Tutorial

Paul Stimers

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to lay out and transfer your boot burning design onto a boot, shoe, or slipper.

Step 1. Print the design on a sheet of 8.5” x 11” paper. For this example, I’m using the Dandelion Boot Burning Design. Note, you must use a laser printer to print the design.

Step 2. Cut out the design. Because I’m using part of the design on the toe of the boot with other parts of the design on the side, I’m going to cut the design into 4 pieces. In the illustration below, the dashes show where I cut out the design.

This is the point where you should think about how you would like the design to fit on the boots, shoes, or slippers. If you need more cutouts, all you need to do is print another sheet. In this photo, I show you how I laid the design out.

You’ll notice that in the side view, I added some additional Dandelion seeds to create the effect that they are blowing in the wind. I printed an extra couple of sheets of the design to give me enough seeds to complete my design on the boot.

CREATIVE TIP: Sometimes, we’ll take two different designs to mix-and-match to create a whole new creative design. Your creative options are virtually limitless.

Step 3. After cutting out the design, position the pieces where you want them on the boot, shoe, or slipper.

WARNING: DO NOT PLACE THE DESIGN WITH IT FACING UP AS SHOWN. I’VE PLACED IT THIS WAY SO YOU CAN SEE THE DESIGN.

When placing the design on the boot, shoe, or slipper, make sure the print is facing down. This will allow you to transfer the design in the next step.

Step 4. In this step, you will transfer the design to you boot, shoe, or slipper. This process is the same as transferring a design to a hat. With the printed side of the design against the boot, you will vigorously rub the design or use a small iron to transfer the design to the boot.

If you’ve never transferred a design to a hat or boot, We have two tutorials on how to transfer the design. The first tutorial is the method we use at Cool Moon Designs. You can find it here: Transferring A Design Our Method. The second tutorial shows optional ways that people use to transfer designs. You can find it here: How To Transfer A Hat Burning Design. I recommend you review both tutorials to determine which method will work best for you.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to review this tutorial about transferring our boot burning designs to boots, shoes, and slippers.
